Who Are We?

The David Buckland Trust was founded in 2010, and our aim is simple; to continue the work of the late David Buckland into provision of opportunity to students and schools in education in the UK. The DB Trust aims to promote the importance of language education for all and to continue the trusted and inspiring work of David.

The David Buckland Trust was set up to promote and support the learning of foreign languages within schools, youth groups and other relevant settings by the giving of awards and funding for study.

Over a long and varied career David developed much of the methodology used throughout the country in the field of language teaching. During his time in Barking and Dagenham he became nationally and internationally known for his work, particularly with disengaged pupils. He wrote materials and was a co-author of the MFL KS3 framework for MFL used in all maintained schools across the country;

He was a passionate believer in the importance of Language learning in the development of the whole CYP and its importance in a nation’s perspective on the world. To this end the trust seeks to raise funds and distribute grants to continue this work.

We are a charity based in London, UK – but we give grants nationally and welcome applicants form across the UK.
